As 2013 hurtles on, so do the top gig nights taking place in the city of Bristol. This week is no exception, welcoming some of the sites favourite new bands to the area. Here are this weeks live picks.
Friday 1st March – Deap Vally @ Thekla
Deap Vally have been amassing a deluge of hype on the blogosphere in the last few months. Billed as the female Black Keys, the similarities are clear to see. Consisting of just guitar, drums and vocals, the raw blues-rock of early tracks ‘Lies’ and ‘End Of The World’ could have been ripped straight from the Auerbach songbook. Whether they have the songs to compete with their more illustrious contemporaries only time will tell, but for now the live show deserves investigation.

Saturday 2nd – Seasfire @ The Louisiana
One of Bristol’s most promising bands Seasfire play The Louisiana on Saturday. After a stellar 2012, the band’s profile has sky-rocketed thanks to rave reviews for debut EP We Will Wake and plays on BBC 6 Music and Radio One. This is the bands first show of 2013 so expect some new tunes to get an airing. My pick of the week.

Sunday 3rd – Wet Nuns @ The Croft
We end the week at The Croft where self-christened blues-punk duo Wet Nuns will be playing as part of their full UK tour. Hailing from Yorkshire, the band are fresh from the release of debut EP Broken Teeth, made available last week. Deploying face-melting fuzz and stoner rock breakdowns that even Kyuss and Fu Manchu would be proud of, this a must attend.
