Ah Leeds. How I miss you. Be it the astounding standard of music, the cheap lager, or perhaps just the questionable student morals, my time in the North’s premiere capital was a total blast. Sitting so close to Manchester, it is a city that is often overlooked musically, which is frankly a travesty when you look at it’s diverse heritage and terrific live scene, from the Brudenell to Nation of Shopkeepers. With the success of Alt-J last year, there is an added spice to 2013 with people like Fun Adults and Swimming Lessons threatening to set the UK on fire. Fitting comfortably alongside these, as well as acts like Post-War Glamour Girls and Backyards, are Heart-Ships, who we first fell for in 2011.
Sitting delicately between Arcade Fire and Modest Mouse, the six-piece have finally announced the details of their debut EP, slated for the 29th of April. Comprised of five tracks and titled, simply, EP 1, it will be released by the infuritatingly titled Label, an independent label from Manchester. How bloody trendy. Renowned locally for their live shows, which are incomparable for honest emotion and power, the EP shows a poise and clarity that ought to put them well and truly on the map. Heart-Ships offer something genuinely original, which is super exciting in a scene crying out for a saviour.
Stream lead track ‘Five Forks Of Lightening’ below. Real tasty.
